Introduction
How do you see things around you? The light from a source (sun, bulb, etc) is reflected by those objects and our eye captures those light and forms the image. The color of objects you see depends on the color of light from source and the color of the light which is not absorbed by that object.
If you point your finger at a tree and say “There is a mango tree” you are saying the truth (unless you are a ruthless liar) but if you point your finger at a star and say “There is a star” then it is NOT true (except perhaps the Northern Star). This is because, what you see is the position of the star when the light which hit your eye ‘left’ from the surface of the star. Universe isn’t stationary and the actual position of star at that time will be different from what you see.
Details
The farthest discovered galaxy so far is Andromeda (correct me if i am wrong). The light, reflected from earth, which reaches Andromeda now started from earth around the time when first humans walked on earth. So what i am trying to say is that, if we somehow create a wormhole to Andromeda (and reach there in one piece) and if we are able to construct a lens powerful enough to watch the earth’s surface, then we can see our first ancestors.
Problems
Well, by now you would have understood what our problem is. First thing we need is a wormhole at a desired distance from earth (for example, 22 light years from earth and i can watch my 1st birthday). Second thing we need is a suit which will take us to the other end of wormhole in one piece. Third thing we need is a powerful lens or a special light capturing device. Finally a nice screen.
Conclusion
So far the only thing out of those 4 that we can construct is a screen. May be one day we will have these or even better to view our past just like a movie.
Though your idea seems crazy it is lot more informative, especially for a layperson like me!
ReplyDeleteNeedless to mention that your idea is extremely thrilling!!
Thank you Priya. :)
DeleteCool idea , I have give it some thought before !
ReplyDeleteAndromeda is the nearest galaxy :P.
ReplyDeleteIf they can make a wormhole, we will be living the star wars life :D or even better.
